November 5th, 2008 admin Posted in How to, Software, Tips and Tricks No Comments »

The Microsoft updates ( called Microsoft’s Patch Tuesdays - second Tuesday of every month) are an important part of every Windows user’s and system administrator’s regular system maintenance. In fact, regularly applying fixes, patches, and updates should be part of your routine, no matter which operating system you use.

Windows XP update process sometimes gets stuck and shows a flashing yellow shield in the System Tray, indicating to download and install important security patches.

Fix for most common issue ‘Updates fail to install.’

In most cases a corrupted CatRoot2 folder causes this. You can fix this by renaming the \Windows\System32\CatRoot2 folder to CatRoot2OLD.

Recover Files on Any Version of Windows Vista with Shadow Explorer

October 26th, 2008 admin Posted in How to, Tips and Tricks, Vista No Comments »

Windows Vista features Shadow Copy ( Previous Version), a useful innovation to help protect your data.This feature automatically creates point-in-time copies of files as you work, so you can quickly and easily retrieve versions of a document you may have accidentally deleted. Shadow copy is automatically turned on in Windows Vista and creates copies on a scheduled basis of files that have changed. Since only incremental changes are saved, minimal disk space is used for shadow copies.

Restore Previous Version feature is only available in the Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise editions of Windows Vista. This can be easily accessed by right-clicking a file or folder and selecting "Restore previous versions." The problem is that the home versions of Vista don’t give you an interface to access them, even though it’s enabled by default!

Shadow Explorer is a software for Windows Vista that makes it possible to restore files using the Volume Shadow Copy Service on all versions of Windows Vista including Home and Premium editions. Shadow Explorer interface

* Show available point-in-time copies
* Browse through Shadow Copies
* Retrieve versions of files and folders

Download ShadowExplorer 0.4
